Fred Nickell, a retired pastor, began doing taxes out of his home in 1989. He was looking for a career that allowed him to work only part-time and would supplement his retirement income.
In 1994, Fred Nickell Tax Service moved to 319 6th Street, Ste 1, Marysville, CA and was there for over 25 years.
In 2018, Nickell Tax & Financial Planning moved to its current location: 610 C Street, Ste. A Marysville, CA 95901
Seth Fuhrer joined the team in 1996 while studying law and taxation. In 2000, after obtaining his securities license, Seth Fuhrer began offering Financial Planning Services in addition to tax preparation. He currently partners with his friend and financial advisor Kenney Salas for these services.
In 2007, Seth Fuhrer obtained his real estate broker’s license and Nickell Tax was able to add real estate and property management to its list of services.
Stephani Fuhrer joined the team in 2002 after receiving her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting. She is our current guru on non-profit taxes and currently works with several non-profits in our community.
In 2019, Seth and Stephani’s son, Stephan, became a tax preparer. Stephan has been working in the tax office and helping out since he was quite young and is extremely familiar with our office. Stephan received his CTECH certification in 2019 and began working full-time as a tax preparer. Stephan is also a notary public and provides a variety of notary public services including acknowledgements, jurats, loan signings and mobile notary.
In 2021, Nickell Tax had the opportunity to add to its client base by purchasing the book of their good friend and fellow tax preparer, Karen Troxel after she passed away.
Then in 2023, Nickell Tax purchased the book of JLB Group when their owner retired.
Incorporated at the end of 2006, Nickell Tax & Financial Planning currently has about 2500 clients and is the largest tax preparation firm in Marysville.
Sadly, we lost our founder, mentor, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Fred Nickell, in October of 2023. He will always be a part of the business that he started and we try to live up to his expectations every day as we remember his montra “We want them [our clients] to leave our office not just with a LARGE REFUND but with a BIG WARM FUZZY feeling…it’s the WARM FRIENDLY ‘You really are important to us’ attitude & atmosphere that…KEEPS THEM COMING TO US!”
